We Are On The Move

In 1976 we moved into our little house in Klamath Falls and for the past 34 years we have fixed it up, added to it, and remodeled most every room. But life changes.
Andy, Madri and the girls are now living over the mountains in Eugene and as of November 23 we expect Tyler and Meghan will be too, if they can find work when they return from their world travels. (Tonight they are in India). We have decided that in our Elderhood it would be wise to live closer to them and we want to see more of our grandkids and their adventures as they grow up, so we have made the enormous decision to move. We have spent time looking for a house in Corvallis where we went to Oregon State University some 40 years ago, and just last week we finally found a place we love and we bought it!
So now we are trying to sell this house and as of tonight I think we have a buyer but time will tell. We are excited about living in a university town with all its cultural, sporting and artsie events. We will again have a life of the mind but we will dearly miss our good friends here in Klamath Falls, but it's only four hours away so we hope there will be a lot of visits back and forth.

The Oregon Country Fair

For years we had heard about this famous free-spirited fair near Eugene that draws thousands of has-been hippies. Jenny wanted to go the day before her wedding so off we all went. Yowser. That place is the best people watching on earth. You see everything!
You might notice in the video that I wasn't up for dancing in the hot sun as I was wearing my clothes so Sheryl found a new dancing partner who wasn't over dressed like I was.

The Weekend Of Jenny Pine's Wedding

This past weekend Jenny married Matt Solomon, a great young man she meet while in the Peace Corps in Kenya. They have been together now for four years and decided to get married along the banks of the McKenzie river in a beautiful ceremony that turned into quite a fun reception.

San Francisco

After surviving Disneyland and putting the kids on the plane home to Portland, Sheryl and I drove up the coast to Moro Bay, then the next day we headed to Berkeley, where we met with one of my best friends from fraternity days, Dave Smith. I still don't fully understand how it happened but twentysome years ago Dave got into the T-Shirt business and has made quite a career of it. We toured his production plant then had a wonderful meal with Dave and Jane at one of California's finest restaurants. We need to do more of that.
Then for 4th of July weekend we went and spent a couple of days in San Francisco. Love That Place. We did our favorite Bike Ride, which starts at Fisherman's wharf then crosses the Golden Gate and around to Tiberon where we catch the ferry back to The Wharf. Sure, there is a beer in Susalito and another in Tiberon, so it's a fine day. The next day we went out to the Filmore for a jazz festival. Other than the fact there was almost no music, we sure had fun. Pure San Francisco with all its color, oddness and acceptance.
It's good to get away but we did make it back to Klamth to spend the evening of the 4th with our group of great friends. Happy Birthday America.

Disneyland

At the end of June our long awaited Take-The-Grandkids-To-Disneyland trip finally arrived. As you would expect, if you know my sister-in-law Cyndi, plans were beautifully made, the entire SoCal family arrived and we had 3 great days at the Magic Kingdom. Too bad little Brooklyn is just too young to understand it all, but at 4 years old Kaylin was quickly into the program. She had as her persoanl guide, Thomas, Jeff's 6 year old gem of a son and the two became best friends. It was awfully sweet.
We went on all kinds of rides but clearly Kaylin's big moment was when she got to meet ALL of the Disney Princesses. Rockets, roller coasters, and amazing techno rides were all fun but will all be long forgotten when she still remembers meeting the REAL princesses. I think the highlight for the rest of us was the pure Joy of family. Dave and Cyndi just have one great family that will gather for almost any excuse. They are a fun group and we ALWAYS enjoy being with them. Disneyland will always be The Magic Kingdom, but to do it with famly was just the best.

Update for Tyler and Meghan

Notice to those of you who check out our blog from time to time: We are at home now and nothing very exciting is going on in our lives but we would like to keep Tyler and Meghan updated as they travel around the world (they are now somewhere in China). They have odd internet access and it is easier for them to view photos and videos on the blog than it would be if I just attached them to an e-mail, so essentially a lot of our entries are meant for them, but of course any and all are welcome to take a peek at our lives, boring though they may be.

So... Last weekend we went to Portland for Kaylin's 4th Birthday Party and for a very nice Memorial Service that Mom organized for the family. We all watched the beautiful DVD that Mom made of her mother's life, then we all went out to the farm and planted an apple tree in remembrance and then scattered Millie's ashes around the farm. It was a wonderful, moving event.

Zongo's Excellent Vacation

This past week we have had the honor of hosting my brother David (Zongo to many of you) and his wife Cyndi. It's always good to see them and this time was no exception. Dave is always so funny because he is amazed at how cold it gets in Klamath, having lived his entire life in Southern Cal. He was frazzled when he arrived as it had been snowing. He was amazed there was ice on his window one morning. He really is almost "cute" as he adjusts to our weather, our wild quail and all things Klamath.
His two main interests seem to be sports and gardening. We watched Tiger collapse, the Lakers win and the best part...he loves to pull weeds! Yeah our yard always looks great after a visit from Dave. I'll include some photos of his idea of a vacation (we LOVE it).
Yep, Zongo is a bit goofy but we love him.

His other great interest is golf. He's pretty good! He and Sheryl make a good team and seem to always have fun hitting the links. Cyndi and I had a beautiful day to go up to Crater Lake while the other pair were at Shield Crest.
